Car activities for kids

Magnetic Matching Activities

Made these very simple matching activities for my Two. He enjoys this sort of thing, and it'll give him something to do when he is beginning to get antsy. Since there are magnets on the back of each piece to keep him from slipping them I am hoping this will be easy and enjoyable. This does take a while to build, but I think it's going to be worth it. Watch the tutorial and receive the free printables in this post, more interesting ideas.

Starting Sounds Coloring Pages

Don't do a great deal of worksheets with my grandparents, but a vehicle trip is the best time to pull some out. I created this collection of 26 coloring pages. They just need to color the images on each and every letter that start with that letter. You can get the free printable within this informative article.

Lap Boards

Have seen some remarkable DIY lapboards on Pinterest. However, I don't sew buttons. I do not do well with wood, foam, or extending fabric. I do not even cut a straight line. So this is my version of a DIY lap board. Find A cheap magnetic baking tray (trick -- they're not all magnetic; check first). This 9 x 13 tray cost 99 cents. Then get some markers or crayons and hot glue magnet bits on them (even adhesive strips may use that extra adhesive). Anything To keep my toddler from dropping a mark each five seconds. The Sketchpad was from the dollar bin at Target.

Conversation Cards

All these Are 100 dialogue starters at the kind of "would you rather" questions. I love these! Would you rather have a pet chicken or even a pet elephant? Would you rather lounge in a pool of marshmallows or M & M's? Learn more and get your free printable cards (or simply a list of queries) in this post.

Novels on CD

Our Number one action on long car rides is reading. Thankfully, my Seven and Five may read on their own. But my Four specifically doesn't have patience for long trips, and he is not prepared to read independently. I will read aloud periodically, but it is not something I want to perform for ten hours! That is where books on CD come in. I borrow from the library, save them in my CD holder, and book multiple copies of every book so each of the big kids can follow along. I Also referred to my Best Picture Books for Kids Pinterest board and found that a huge pile of new-to-us publications to take along. (The hard part was keeping my kids from studying them until the big trip!
